Jacob Hom

Jake Hom is entering his first season as an assistant coach with the baseball team in 2023-24.

Hom comes to MSUB from Holy Names University (Oakland, CA), where he primarily oversaw the hitters and also worked defensively with the infielders. Hom was a graduate assistant coach and pursued a Master’s degree in Applied Sport and Performance Psychology.

HNU closed its doors at the end of the Spring 2023 semester. Despite it being the final season for the program, Hom helped the HNU Hawks set the program record for highest number of wins in a single season, and the team qualified for postseason for the first time in program history. Hom led the hitters to program best single season records for batting average, extra-base hits, walks, steals, and runs per game, while reducing strikeouts by 25%.

Hom’s first year working with the offense at HNU also resulted in setting then program best .263 team batting average, along with 22 homeruns and 241 RBI’s, which were program highs. Hom coached 3rd base for the Hawks.

Before joining the staff at Holy Names, Hom returned to his alma mater, Los Medanos, where he served as an assistant coach from 2018 to 2021. In 2018, Hom was a part of the first Bay Valley Conference championship team, with the season ultimately resulting in regional and super regional victories, reaching the sectional round for the first time in school history.

While working at Los Medanos, Hom worked with infielders, outfielders, and catchers while also serving as one of the program’s primary hitting coaches. LMC ended the 2021 season with a team batting average of .308 and averaged 6.5 runs per game.

Hom was a utility infielder and outfielder at Briar Cliff University (Sioux City, IA) for two seasons. He led the team in batting average and RBIs with .329 average and 55 RBIs in 91 games played and was an All-Conference selection. Hom was awarded a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology in 2018.

Prior to his playing career at Briar Cliff, Hom attended Los Medanos College (Pittsburg, CA) where he played both infield and outfield. In 2016, Hom achieved a .353 batting average and produced 19 stolen bases (3rd highest in BVAC) and was named 1st team All-Conference and 1st team All-California. Hom received an Associate’s degree in Administration of Justice in 2016.

Hom is a Bay Area native out of Brentwood, California. He attended Heritage High School and returned to the area following his college graduation to pursue coaching professionally. He now resides in Billings with his wife, Darien, and their yellow lab, Tucker.
