Triathlon: Became the first MSUB athlete in program history to qualify for the Women’s Collegiate Triathlon National Championships…competed in all four triathlons, including the national championship, and was MSUB’s top finisher in all four races…in the season opener, placed 22nd overall and 14th amongst collegiate women at the Southern Hills Triathlon with a 1:12:33 total time…finished in 15th place with a 1:16:06 at the Oktoberfest Triathlon on Sept. 19…Qualified for the national championships by placing 17th amongst all DII runners (and 44th overall) with a 1:22:06 at the NCAA National Qualifier (10/30)…Placed 46th at the Women’s Collegiate Triathlon National Championships with a 1:20:27 on Nov. 13…in spring competition, placed 13th with a time of 1:19:33.6 the Stanford Treeathlon on Mar. 6…received Buzzie award for Women’s Triathlete of the Year.
Cross Country: Competed in two cross country races, including the 2021 GNAC Championships…ran her collegiate-best 6K time with a 25:38.0 and was MSUB’s fifth runner at the 2021 GNAC Championships…earned her first collegiate top-10 cross country finish at the Gage McSpadden Memorial XC Invite, where she placed seventh and ran a 22:00.7 5K.
2020-21
Triathlon: Fall season canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic…ran at both races in the spring…placed 41st overall and 14th among women with a 1:13:39.4 at the Sarasota-Bradenton Triathlon on March 14…led the ‘Jackets by finishing 28th overall with a 1:14:43 at the Hyco Lake Triathlon on April 17.
Outdoor Track & Field: Competed at one outdoor track meet...placed seventh in the 1,500 meters with a 5:48.89 at the Battlin' Bears/Yellowjacket Open on April 1.
2019-20
Triathlon: Competed in all five races as a true freshman in fall...placed fifth in Southern Hills Triathlon with total time of 1:21:54.3...took 12th in the Division II field at NCAA West Region Qualifier on Aug. 15...finished 15th in 61-athlete field at Oktoberfest Triathlon Aug. 23...placed 18th among 39 at NCAA East Region Qualifier Oct. 19...finished NCAA Championships in 1:17:47 for 21st place in Division II Nov. 16…spring season canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic…received Buzzie award for Women’s Triathlete of the Year.
Cross Country: Competed in two races in her sophomore season for the Yellowjackets...ran a time of 25:43:00 (63rd) at the GNAC championships...28:55:9 West Region championships (175)...26:99 average race time.
Sheridan College: Competed in basketball for one season in 2017-18…played in 26 games and 58 total minutes for an average of 2.2 minutes per game…averaged 2.9 points per game…shot 35.6 percent overall and 25.6 percent from 3-point range…had a personal-best 18 points on Dec. 15, 2017 against Little Big Horn College.
Hardin High School: Participated in four sports during her career with the Bulldogs…in cross country led her team to the 2016-17 Class A title...finished in fifth place as an individual…also helped the team to a third-place finish in 2015-16…was team captain for two years…in tennis was an all-state selection and was her team’s most valuable player for two years…highest finish at state was second place in singles, during the 2015-16 year…on the hardwood was a four-time academic all-state pick and also earned all-state honors…helped Hardin to a runner-up finish in 2016-17…was named to the all-tournament team…earned one letter in volleyball during her prep career.
Coach Bjerke on Chavez: “Madisan took the reigns as our program’s first triathlete with vigor, immediately dedicating herself to the summer training program upon signing with the team in the summer of 2019. She has a very well rounded athletic background coupled with a natural endurance ability and mindset which has quickly transformed her into a well-rounded triathlete. I look forward to her leading the squad in our program’s second year.”
Chavez on choosing MSUB: “I am brand new to the sport of triathlon, but I know with the perseverance and my family there to support me, I will have success in all that I put my mind to.”
