Seattle, Wash. — The Montana State University Billings volleyball team fell to Seattle Pacific in straight sets Saturday afternoon, dropping a 25-13, 25-13, 25-16 decision to the Falcons at Royal Brougham Pavilion.
The Yellowjackets finished the match with 21 kills and 19 assists while being held to a .059 hitting percentage by Seattle Pacific. MSUB also recorded 28 digs and eight blocks in the match. The loss moved the 'Jackets to 3-11 overall and 0-5 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
Allie Dorman led the Yellowjackets offensively with five kills on 12 attacks for a .333 hitting percentage, while
Emma Fairbairn also finished with five kills.
Addyson Quandt added four kills while hitting .300 and contributed two block assists.
Avery Starr directed the offense with 13 assists and added four digs, while
Avarey Stuff led MSUB defensively with seven digs.
Izzy Ping added three kills and six digs, and
Mikayla Champlin recorded three block assists.
Seattle Pacific established control early in the opening set, using an efficient offensive attack to build an early advantage. MSUB battled to stay within striking distance, but the Falcons continued to extend their lead throughout the frame. Seattle Pacific hit .361 in the opening set and closed out the 25-13 victory.
The Falcons carried their momentum into the second set, opening with another strong offensive stretch. MSUB struggled to generate consistent offense and was held to a -.040 hitting percentage in the frame. Seattle Pacific maintained a comfortable advantage from the early stages and again finished with a 25-13 set victory to take a 2-0 lead.
MSUB showed more offensive consistency in the third set, recording seven kills while hitting .154, its best mark of the match. Dorman and Quandt helped provide production at the net as the Yellowjackets attempted to extend the match. Seattle Pacific, however, continued to attack efficiently and finished the afternoon with a .340 team hitting percentage. The Falcons pulled away late to secure the 25-16 win and complete the sweep.
UP NEXT: The Yellowjackets return to action Thursday, Oct. 1, when they travel to Ellensburg, Washington, to face Central Washington at Nicholson Pavilion at 7 p.m. The match is the first of two on the road to begin October for MSUB.
