PORTLAND, Ore. – After anchoring the rotation in a key conference series, Montana State University Billings right-hander
Brennen Chappell was named GNAC Pitcher of the Week following his dominant outing against Central Washington.
Chappell played a pivotal role in MSUB's 3-1 series win over Central Washington, delivering a complete-game performance in game two to secure the conference victory. Making his 17th career start as a Yellowjacket, the senior collected his seventh career win and third of the season. He worked all seven innings, surrendering no earned runs while striking out eight in one of his strongest outings of the year.
"Chappell seemed to get stronger as the game continued to progress this past weekend," said head coach
Derek Waddoups. "He did a great job of throwing strike one, which led to shorter innings and allowed him to pitch later in the game. We made it interesting late, and he pitched through some adversity to get the complete-game win."
The Kimberly, Idaho native continues to be one of the top strikeout arms in the conference. Among MSUB's qualifying pitchers, he owns the second-lowest ERA on the staff at 5.53 and leads the Yellowjackets with a .259 batting average against. His 31 strikeouts not only pace the team but also rank first in the GNAC this season.
