The Montana State University Billings Yellowjackets concluded it's final series before the opening of GNAC play against Northwest Nazarene on Saturday with a pair of doubleheader losses, falling 10-1 in game one and 5-1 in game two. MSUB's
Josie Theilen would hit her first collegiate home run, and
Marleigh Nieto's consistent hitting were the few offensive outcomes for the Jackets.
Game one of the day featured another early lead for the Yellowjackets, with freshman
Josie Theilen continuing her hot-hitting weekend with a solo home run in the first inning, the first of her collegiate career. It would be all Nighthawks for the remainder of the game, who got ahold of the Jackets' pitching staff for 12 hits and 10 runs through the next four innings. Theilen would finish the game with two hits, an RBI, and a stolen base.
Marleigh Nieto added a single for the Jackets, bringing her hit streak to ten straight games.
Alexis Tovar also added a single in the second inning.
Game two proved to be a lower-scoring battle between the two, with the first run of the game coming in the top of the fourth inning on an error by the NNU shortstop, allowing
Grace Hood to cross the plate and take a 1-0 lead. Pitcher
Danica Butler for the Yellowjackets had an impressive first four innings, allowing only three hits and no runs scored, as well as getting on base twice with a double and a walk. The Nighthawks would capitalize on defensive errors to bring in five runs in the bottom of the fifth, which would prove to be the difference in the 5-1 outcome. Nieto brought her hit-streak to 11 games with two hits, including a double.
THE BUZZ: Josie Theilen would be named the Intermountain Health Player of the Game for game one with two hits, one RBI, and one run scored.
