BISMARCK, N.D. – The Montana State University Billings men's and women's track & field programs put up impressive performances at the UMary Winter Classic in Bismarck on Saturday, finishing with a number of quality marks and personal bests.
Highlighting the list of top performances for the MSUB women was a first-place finish in the 4x400m relay, with
Bella Klein,
Delainey Engen,
Katie Sheridan, and
Micah Strong combining to run a time of 4:09.85. The mark ranked fourth in program history, and a season best mark for the foursome.
The first-place finish would lead an impressive showing at the meet for Strong, who finished 12
th in the 200m with a time of 27.27. Behind her,
Izzy Ping would finish just behind her in 14
th with a time of 27.89, while also leading MSUB's efforts in the 60m prelims with a time of 8.12. Sheridan would also race in the 60m and collect a PR time of 8.54, while freshman
Hailey Daffin PR'd with a time of 8.71.
Klein would finish sixth in the 400m with a time of 1:03.31 to lead MSUB's efforts. In the 800m, three Yellowjackets would set PR's, with
Gracyn Rock taking fifth with a time of 2:31.06,
Chloe Shennum taking sixth with a time of 2:31.54, and
Toree Manning finishing tenth with a time of 2:49.06. Kaelyn Sangray would race to a season best in the event, running 2:50.51. Rock would lead MSUB in the mile with a time of 5:29.79 to place eighth, while Shennum would once more receive a PR with her time of 5:44.70.
In the field events, the 'Jacket women would see three different PR marks in the shot put.
Hannah Cooper would lead MSUB's finishers with a eighth place finish, throwing 11.91m (39' 1"), while Morgon Lijewski would finish tenth with a throw of 11.53m (37' 10"), and
Lizzy Kerzman place 19
th with a mark of 10.51m (34' 5.75").
Jaida Green would hit her season best in the event, throwing 11.30m (37' 1"). Cooper would also lead the Yellowjackets in the weight throw with a third place finish, throwing 16.32m (53' 6.5"), while Green would place 7
th with a throw of 14.79m (48' 6.25"), and
Mattea McColly would land in eighth with a mark of 14.60m (47' 10.75").
For the Yellowjacket men, the team's biggest highlights would come in the field events, led by
Cort Sandefur, who would PR in the weight throw with a fourth-place finish, with his 17.20m (56' 5.25") throw placing sixth in the GNAC this season, and 66
th overall in Division II this year. Behind him,
Kody Biggs would place sixth with a throw of 16.05m (52' 8"), while
Sean Zimmer PR'd in 11
th with a throw of 14.67m (48' 1.75"). Sandefur would lead MSUB again in the shot put as well, finishing with a mark of 14.02m (46' 0") to place tenth, while PR marks of 13.70m (44' 11.5") from Biggs and 13.26m (43' 6") from
Kane Olsen would see them place 12
th and 13
th respectively.
In the jumping events,
Johnnie Young would finish eighth in both the high jump and the long jump, with leaps of 1.86m (6' 1.25") in the high jump, and 6.46m (21' 2.5") in the long jump.
Goodness Okere would place sixth in the triple jump. Leaping 12.16m (39' 10.75"). Moving onto the track,
Tyler Grenier would lead MSUB's finishers in the 60m with a time of 7.23, with
Ryen Sanders running a season best mark of 7.30, and
Terran Joseph running a PR of 7.41.
Ryan Fenley would run a season best 9.59 in the 60m hurdles, before Sanders would once more lead MSUB in the 200m with a time of 23.46.
Landon Freeman and Joseph would each race to PR marks of 23.78 and 24.76 in the event, while in the 400m,
Kalub Padilla would race to a season best mark of 53.01, placing tenth overall.
Bruce Reed would PR in the mile with a run of 4:53.53.
