MSUB Battles but Falls in Three to Streaking Seawolves

BILLINGS, Mont.- The Montana State University Billings volleyball team wrapped up their Last Frontier matchup with a three-set loss to the University of Alaska Anchorage. The Seawolves (11-1), currently on a strong winning streak similar to Alaska Fairbanks, added the Yellowjackets (1-5) to their list of recent victories, which also includes two wins over nationally ranked opponents.

"We came into the match with a great game plan with focus on a couple of areas we needed to improve upon from last match," said head coach Scott Keister. "Serving was one of those areas and we did much better today with an emphasis on that. The other was our attacking against a good block, we are still learning and there will be some hiccups along the way, but I have no doubt this team will respond. We will be ready to get back to work so that we can get better every single day."

The Seawolves played a near flawless game, finishing with a team hitting percentage of .437 while posting 37 kills, 13 service aces, and seven blocks. Anchorage came out of the game hot with a 7-1 run, but the Yellowjackets responded with a 5-2 run of their own behind three kills from Jordin Taulua and an ace from Avarey Stuff. After another pair of Seawolf runs, MSUB scraped a few points on the board from another ace from Stuff and kills from Marissa Allen and Tehani Moniz, but UAA was able to run away with a 25-13 set win.

Similar to the opening set, the Seawolves jumped out ahead, but Reese Sherwood was able to halt the rally with a perfectly executed dump followed by an ace from Allie Dorman. From there, Anchorage took control again but not without some pushback. MSUB saw a trio of kills from Taulua and Dorman with an Izzy Ping kill to add but it was not enough and the Seawolves took the second set 25-12.

It was the 'Jackets scoring the first point of the third set, capitalizing on an attacking error from the Seawolves. Following was yet another 5-1 run from Anchorage that lit some fire in the Yellowjackets. Using five errors from UAA and another Taulua kill to their advantage, MSUB brought it back to an 8-7 ballgame. Dorman was able to put down another kill in the set but behind the serve of Ivanka Lee, the Seawolves closed out the set with an astonishing 11-0 run to take the match.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
Jordin Taulua: 8 Kills, 3 Digs
Allie Dorman: 6 Kills, 7 Digs, 1 Ace
Reese Sherwood: 10 Assists, 2 Digs, 1 Kill
Avarey Stuff: 5 Digs, 2 Aces

THE BUZZ: Allie Dorman was named Intermountain Health Player of the Game after posting six kills, seven digs, and one service ace.
