8/26/2025 12:39:00 PM

BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings athletic department announces the hiring of Brett Bowman as the new Head Sports Performance Coach. Bowman is the second person to hold the title as this position was created prior to the 2024-2025 academic year.

"We are excited to appoint Brett as our new Head Sports Performance Coach. His direct Division II experience and overall experience in the profession, along with his passion will be extremely beneficial for our student-athletes," said MSUB Director of Athletics Michael Bazemore. "With the help of Coach Bowman, we look to continue to build on our sports performance program."

Bowman will be tasked with working with all of the Yellowjackets' 14 athletic programs, collaborating with the team's coaches and student-athletes to establish and uphold training programs and standards, while helping push for the growth and development of student-athletes in the weight room. Bowman comes to MSUB after recently holding the Head Strength and Conditioning position at Western New Mexico University (NCAA DII - Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference). At WNMU, he was responsible for all 13 varsity sports while managing their graduate assistant and intern staff for strength and conditioning.

"I am thankful for the opportunities given to me by MSU Billings to be a part of their athletics program," said Head Sports Performance Coach Brett Bowman. "I am looking forward to working with everyone."

Yellowjacket athletics announced this new position in the summer of 2024 - a position that is not always uniform at the NCAA Division II level but has become a permanent position at MSUB by Bazemore. The Head Sports Performance Coach designs, develops, implements and instructs sports performance for all Yellowjacket student-athletes for the entirety of the academic year. This position may also collaborate in areas of athletic training and nutrition to ensure the highest quality care for the student-athletes.
