RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Montana State University Billings men's golf team finished with a strong second place finish at the South Dakota Mines Spring Hardrocker earlier this afternoon. Leading the way was true freshman
Ryan Badger who narrowly fell short in a playoff hole with a chance to take the individual crown.
The 6,548-yard, par-71 Arrowhead Country Club hosted six teams, including Montana State University Billings, Augustana University, Jamestown University, South Dakota Mines, Dakota Wesleyan, and Dickinson State. A total of 43 players braved the chilly conditions during the two-round competition.
The Yellowjackets started strong, leading the field after an opening round of 299. However, their second-round score of 301 wasn't enough to maintain the top spot. MSUB finished the 36-hole event with a total team score of 600, just five strokes behind the first-place team.
Badger entered the clubhouse with an impressive 144 (72-71), beating his previous 36-hole personal record five strokes. With Badger and Henry Hartquist from Augustana tied for the lead the entered into a playoff hole with Hartquist edging out the victory.

Holding strong in second place for the Yellowjackets was
Quinn Haigwood. The senior posted a two-round score of 152 (76-76) to tie for 10
th place overall. Also tying for tenth place and competing as an individual was
Trey Engellant. The Kalispell, MT native fired off a personal best 71 in the final round to climb 17 places on the leaderboard, finishing out with a 152 (81-71) which crushed his previous 36-hole personal best by 12 strokes.
Pete Netrnilweerachot was next into the clubhouse for the 'Jackets, posting a 154 (74-80) to tie for 15
th place overall. Netrnilweerachot's 154 was also a personal record for the freshman, beating his previous record by five total strokes. Rounding it out for MSUB was
Kaopun Akmaneenin who tied for 22
nd at 156 (77-79), and
Hayato Ito in 24
th place with a two-round score of 157 (82-75).
THE BUZZ: Ryan Badger earned Intermountain Health Round of the Day with a 72 in the opening round, and
Trey Engellant earned Intermountain Health Round of the Day after firing off a personal best 71 in the final round.
