PORTLAND, Ore. – After the Montana State University Billings women's track and field team opened it's outdoor campaign last Saturday,
Mya Richardson capped off a successful start to the season by being named GNAC Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference Monday.
"Mya had an outstanding meet," said MSUB head coach Jon Woehl. She had a huge PR in the 100 and nearly a PR in the 200. She has been very coachable and has been improving every week."
It marks the first career Athlete of the Week selection for Richardson, who picked up the honors after collecting a pair of excellent finishes at the Yellowjacket/Battlin' Bears Icebreaker Open. The junior began the day by running a 12.48 in the 100m, setting a new PR and moving into fourth place all-time in MSUB's record books. She would then follow that up by taking a first-place finish in the 200m with a time of 26.17. On the season so far, Richardson currently ranks fifth on the GNAC performance list in the 100m, and sixth in the 200m.
Richardson and the Yellowjacket's track and field programs will compete at home once more this weekend when the teams host the MSUB/RMC Open from March 21-22 at Lockwood High School. Schedule information and live coverage of all MSUB track and field events can be found
