BILLINGS, Mont.- A total of 53 student-athletes were inducted into the Montana State University Billings Chi Alpha Sigma National Honor Society for the 2023-24 academic year announced by the athletic department.
The annual ceremony was held on Monday night at the Buzzies, honoring athletes both in attendance, and who were unable to attend. This year's class of honorees featured 30 first time recipients, and 23 returners, including a trio of athletes earning the honor for the third time.
"We pride ourselves on having quality students, and our departmental GPA and Chi Alpha Sigma membership highlight this point," said Athletic Director Michael Bazemore. "I am extremely proud of all of our inductees (both new and continued) and congratulate them on their accomplishment as this is a challenging honor to receive, and very significant."
The Montana chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma is reserved for Yellowjacket student-athletes of junior or senior standing who currently maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.4 or higher.
About Chi Alpha Sigma: The nonprofit organization, founded in 1996, is designed to recognize NCAA and NAIA college athletes who stand out academically. It was established by former DePauw University head football coach Nick Mourouzis with the intention to create a fraternal association among outstanding student-athletes to share their success both on and off the field.
MSUB and Western Oregon University are the lone schools in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with Chi Alpha Sigma membership, and are two of just seven schools in the NCAA Division II west region to honor its student-athletes with the award. The University of Montana Western is the other institution in the state of Montana to hold membership within Chi Alpha Sigma.
