NAMPA, Ida. – In their final tune up before the GNAC Championships, the Montana State University Billings Yellowjacket women's golf team finished in 5
th place at the Nighthawk Challenge.
Meilyn Armstrong led the way in a tie for 16
th place and was closely followed by
Haylee Adams in 18
th place after a phenomenal second round.
"It was great to go out and get another tournament in before the GNAC Championships in about a week," said head coach
Adam Buie. "We have some positives to take away from this tournament and we look forward to the team building off of this. I know they will be ready to go – it is always a great event in Coeur d'Alene with all of the conference opponents there and ready to compete."
During the two-round event, almost all five Yellowjackets saw improvements on day two. Armstrong, who finished with a combined score of 171, improved by five strokes on Saturday as she finished with an 83 (+12). Immediately behind her in the standings was
Haylee Adams (172), who shot an impressive 77 (+6) on Saturday after some uncharacteristic struggles on Friday. Adams propelled up the leaderboard on the final day, as her 77 was the 5
th best scoresheet from round two in the entire event; Adams improved by 18 strokes from her first round score.
Chloe Van Strien also improved by a stroke on day 2, finishing in 21
st place with a total score of 175 (+33).
Tatum York-Bement and
Adessa Lundberg finished in a tie for 24
th place as they both shot 178 (+36).
The Yellowjackets will head back to Billings and make some final adjustments before heading to Coeur d'Alene on Saturday for the GNAC Championships.
THE BUZZ: Meilyn Armstrong is named the Intermountain Health player of the tournament after leading the Yellowjackets with a 171 (88-83).
