AZUSA, Cal. – The Montana State University Billings softball team was defeated 8-0 by Azusa Pacific in five innings Thursday.
The Yellowjackets (1-5) and Cougars (1-3) were originally scheduled to play a doubleheader the previous day, but with major rainfall taking place in California, the teams were forced to reschedule multiple times, finally managing to play one game against each other.
Things got off to a rough start for MSUB, when Azusa Pacific scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning. A pair of RBI hits helped the Cougars gain a quick 2-0 lead, before a well-hit two run home run to left field helped give the hosts a 4-0 lead through the first inning. The Cougars would add four more runs in the game, walking things off in the bottom of the fifth inning when a sacrifice fly would drive in their eighth run, officially finishing off the Yellowjackets.
Sophomore
Alexis Tovar finished 1-2, as did catcher
Kaylin Galvin, the only two hits for the Yellowjackets in the game.
Teagan Seeton reached base on a walk, with the sophomore centerfielder reaching base in all six of the Yellowjackets games so far this season.
Caitlyn James struck out three batters.
THE BUZZ: Galvin was selected as the Intermountain Health Player of the Game.
UP NEXT: The Yellowjackets will finish off their California road trip Friday with a doubleheader scheduled against #7 Cal State San Marcos, who swept MSUB in a pair of games last Sunday. Live video (pay-per-view) is available
