‘Jackets fall to SFSU in Game Three

REDWOOD, Cali. – The Montana State University Billings Yellowjacket baseball (1-2) team dropped the series after falling to SFSU in game three 13-6.

Game THREE: MSUB 6, SFSU 13

The Gators struck first in the final game of the series on a solo home run, but their lead did not last long. The one-two punch at the top of the lineup got the offense moving that continued for the next two innings. Zack Blaszak doubled in the fourth inning to score Bodee Wright followed by a two-run bomb by Jack Nehler. This wouldn't be his only home run of the game as he had another two-run shot in the sixth inning following a Payton Flynn single that scored Blaszak. "Jack had a huge day for us, he led the offense in every major category and drove the ball well," said coach Waddoups.

Ryun Cross was the game three starter for the Yellowjackets throwing 4.2 innings, seven strikeouts, four hits, and three runs. Fist out of the pen was Cole Bertram who found himself in a jam. The Gators had already scored two runs in the inning tying the game at six apiece and with runners on the corners Bertram shut the door with a huge strikeout. "Cross threw a nice game and Bertram did a great job pitching out of a big jam," said Waddoups. "We gave them way too many free opportunities on the day and it was the difference in the game."

San Francisco State went on to score a pair of runs in the seventh and opened up the game in the bottom of the eighth. The Gators scored five runs on five hits to take the 13-6 lead and held the 'Jackets scoreless in the ninth, closing out the game.

HEAR FROM WADDOUPS: "We did a lot of great things as a team today. We became passive at the plate, and it hurt our offense. Chico will be another tough series, but I am looking forward to how we will respond."

KEY PERFORMANCES:
Zack Blaszak – 2 H, 2 R, 1 RBI
Bodee Wright – 2 H, 1 R
Payton Flynn – 1 H, 1 R, 1RBI
Ryun Cross – 4.2 IP, 3 ER, 7 K
Cole Bertram – 0.2 IP, 2 k

THE BUZZ: Jack Nehler was selected as Intermountain Health Player of the Game after going 3-4 from the plate including two home runs, one double, four RBIs, and two runs.

UP NEXT: The Montana State University Billings Yellowjacket baseball team is back at it again tomorrow at 2 PM (PST) for another three-game series vs Chico State.
