BILLINGS, Mont. – After helping to lead the Montana State University Billings women's basketball team to a pair of wins over in-state opponents,
Aspen Giese was awarded with GNAC Player of the Week honors, as announced by the conference on Monday.
"Aspen had a terrific week, especially offensively from the 3-point line," said MSUB head coach
Kevin Woodin. "She has the ability to score at all three levels. Her teammates created great looks for her and she consistently knocked down shots in both games last week. Aspen is an elite two-way player who is effective on both ends. In addition, her senior leadership has been an important key to our team's success."
The selection marks the second Player of the Week selection for Giese both this season and for her career. The senior from Fort Benton, Montana helped to guide the Yellowjackets to a pair of wins last week, where the Yellowjackets extended their winning streak to ten consecutive games. Giese led all players in scoring in MSUB's 77-49 win last Wednesday over Rocky Mountain College, dropping 23 points on 8-15 shooting, while going 7-13 from three-point range to tie her career high for made triples in a game. She also finished the game with four rebounds, three steals, an assist, and a block. She then went on to score 12 points on Friday in the Yellowjackets 79-53 thumping of Montana Western, all of which came from three-pointers. Giese finished that game 4-6 from beyond the arc, while adding seven rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. In total for the week, Giese averaged 17.5 points per game, shooting 48.0% from the field and 57.9% from three. She also averaged 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 1.5 assists per game.
In total this season, Giese leads the Yellowjackets in scoring, averaging 13.5 points per game. She also is MSUB's leading rebounder with 6.1 boards per game, and tops the team in steals with 2.4 per contest. She will look to continue her run of quality performances for the 'Jackets this week in Las Vegas, where the #3 ranked Yellowjackets are scheduled for a trio of games against fellow nationally ranked competition, beginning this Tuesday against #24 Cal Poly Pomona, before playing #17 Texas Tyler on Thursday, and #7 Lubbock Christian on Friday.
