Billings, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings women's soccer program tied at 0-0 with the Western Oregon Wolves Saturday afternoon, earning their first point against the Wolves in the 2024 season. MSUB goalkeeper Claire Brogden earned her sixth shutout of the season, her fourth at home.
It was a defensive battle the entire match, but the first half proved to be tough for both sides on offense. The 'Jackets recorded only one shot by
Maddie Smith late in the half, while the Wolves had three shot attempts, one being on goal and saved by Claire Brogden.The two teams remained scoreless for the entirety of the opening 45 minutes of play.
The second half had more action on offense, including four shots-on-goal for the 'Jackets by
Jackie Sharpe,
Erika Wilson,
Maddie Smith, and
Vivien Guese. Wolves goalkeeper Sophia Pierce, a Montana native, stopped all four shots that came her way. Brogden stayed solid through the second half as well, stopping one more shot attempt by the Wolves, giving her two total saves on the day. Brogden now sits in second place in the conference for shutouts with six. Despite the increased scoring opportunities in the second half, neither team was able to get one in the net, ending in an even draw.
THE BUZZ: Megan Mendenhall was selected as the Intermountain Health Player of the Game for her strong performance on defense.
