Jackets’ Bounce Back with Dominant Win over Saints

LACEY, Wash. – The Montana State University Billings men's soccer team defeated the Saint Martin's Saints in  dominating fashion Thursday afternoon, sporting a 4-0 victory. The Jackets' previously defeated the Saints in Billings on October 10th with a secure 5-0 win.

The two squads were evenly matched through the first twenty minutes of the game, with only one shot being taken by the Saints that sailed over the net in the 8th minute. But the Jackets' would soon strike first in the 21st minute on a goal by So Nagano, who floated a shot over the head of the Saints' goalie on a free kick from Guillermo Gonzalez near the Jackets' own goal. The goal marks Nagano's team-leading 6th on season. The Jackets' would double their lead three minutes later on a goal by junior Ryan Hanley, perfectly placing a shot from the right side of the goalie box in the top left corner of the net. The score would remain 2-0 for the remainder of the half. MSUB goalie Fred Reiter recorded one save in the half.

The second half started as a back-and-forth battle similar to the first half. The Jackets' spent a majority of the time in the offensive zone, with So Nagano and Matteo Bosch recording a shot on goal. They would finally cash in to bring the lead to three on a goal right in front of the net by Bjarne Fedkenhauer, who poked a shot in off a short pass from Rene Tello. Fedkenhauer would score again in the 77th minute to cap off the victory for the Jackets' with a free kick shot just outside the goalie box, pinning it in the top left corner.

The two-goal game is Bjarne's first of his Yellowjacket career, as well as a career high shots-on-goal with three. So Nagano also moves into a tie at second in the conference in goals scored with 6 this season.

With the win today, the Jackets sit in a four way for tie for fourth place in the conference, behind Western Oregon who they will face in Monmouth this Saturday.

THE BUZZ: Bjarne Fedkenhauer was selected as the Intermountain Health Player of the Game, scoring two goals, three shots-on-goal, and three shot attempts.

UP NEXT: The Jackets' will travel to Monmouth, Oregon to face the #10 ranked Western Oregon Wolves in a fierce rematch. Live stats can be found here. Live video can be found here.
