SEATTLE, Wash. – The Montana State University Billings women's soccer team got off to a rocky start in it's first taste of conference action, falling 7-0 to Seattle Pacific in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
The Yellowjackets (1-2-1, 0-1-0 GNAC) faced a challenge coming into the game, having to face off against the GNAC's top offense in the Falcons (3-2-0, 1-0-0 GNAC) on the road. That top ranked offense lived up to its billing, going up early before seeing out the game comfortably with five second half goals.
The 'Jackets showed some goal threat early in the match, going even in shots with Seattle Pacific in the first 15 minutes of play. But a well worked sequence from the Falcons would put the ball across goal, where Moira MacKay would knock it home to open up the scoring for SPU. They'd pick up their second in the 36
th minute, and despite a late shot on goal from defender
Lauren Becraft, a save by goalkeeper Mercedes Cullen would keep the Falcons up 2-0 heading into halftime.
The Falcons would have to wait long to find the back of the net again in the second half, scoring three goals in the first five minutes of the restart. It would be smooth sailing from there, as they held off the Yellowjackets for the rest of the half, scoring two more goals along the way to take a 7-0 victory.
Becraft finished with two shots for MSUB, both on goal. Forward
Jackie Sharpe had four attempts, placing one on target, while
Jillian Hust had two shots.
Clare Keenan made four saves in the match.
THE BUZZ: Sharpe was selected as the Intermountain Health Player of the Game.
