BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings men's soccer team picked up their second win in as many days, taking down Carroll College 1-0 Saturday night at Yellowjacket Field.
The Yellowjackets (2-0) battled closely all night against the Saints (0-1-1), with both teams finding their moments in the game. The Yellowjackets had four shots on goal, compared to three from Carroll, as both teams would struggle to find their looks. The decider ultimately would prove to be in the 40
th minute, when
Kamden Beck's shot from the top left corner of the box would strike the outstretched arm of a defending Saint, resulting in a penalty kick for MSUB. Senior
Callum Bryan stepped to the spot for the Jackets, calmly slotting the ball into the top right corner to give the Yellowjackets the advantage.
It would remain that way for the rest of the game, despite both teams having solid looks in the final 45 minutes. The Jackets had a pair of chances on goal in the 53
rd and 63
rd minutes saved by Saint's goalkeeper Juan Muniz Navarrette, while Carroll had an excellent chance in the 85
th minute, which was denied by MSUB goalie
Jeremi Campagnolo. That chance would prove to be Carroll's final one in the game however, as the Yellowjackets defense held strong to keep their first clean sheet of the season, and keep MSUB unbeaten.
Campagnolo made three saves in the match, while
Kolja Thomas,
Guillermo Gonzalez, and
Josh Nalletamby completed a full 90 minutes in the backline, helping to limit Carroll's quality looks all night. Beck led the Jacket's attackers with three shots, two of which were on goal, while Bryan and freshman forward
Sam Kemmer were responsible for MSUB's other two shots on goal.
THE BUZZ: Campagnolo was selected as the Intermountain Health Player of the Game… Bryan's goal was his first of the season, and the sixth in his Yellowjacket career… The Yellowjackets are now 2-0 in regular season games against Carroll College, with this meeting being the first regular season contest between the two teams since 2015.
UP NEXT: MSUB takes the road for the first time in the 2023 season next week, with the first game of their road trip being a rematch against South Dakota Mines, who the Jackets defeated 2-1 on Friday night. The game is scheduled for Wednesday, September 6 at O'Harra Stadium in Rapid City, SD, with kickoff scheduled for 7 PM. Live video will be
