MSUB Women’s Basketball Crack WBCA Academic Top 25 Honor Rolls

8/3/2023 10:32:00 AM

ATLANTA, Geo. – The Montana State University Billings women's basketball program spent the 2022-23 season proving they were one of the best teams in the nation on the court. On Tuesday, however, the Yellowjackets were also recognized as one of the best teams in the country in the classroom as well.

The Yellowjackets were recognized by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, where they were announced as one of the teams to make the 2022-23 Academic Top 25 Honor Roll. The award recognizes NCAA teams from each level of competition across the nation that carry the highest combined GPAs over the entire season. The Yellowjackets roster finished with a combined 3.74 GPA, tying for the 10th highest in the country at the DII level.

"Congratulations to our entire program for this great honor," said Yellowjackets Head Coach Kevin Woodin. "Our players truly understand the importance of getting it done in the classroom as well as on the court. The NCAA has more than 300 DII women's basketball programs, it is an amazing accomplishment to be ranked in the top 10 academically in back-to-back years."

It was the 10th time in the past 19 seasons that MSUB has received Top 25 GPA honors under Woodin's tenure. It was the team's fourth time in the top ten, which they earned for the second consecutive year.

The Yellowjackets finished last season with a 25-8 record, their most wins since the 2017-2018 season, which concluded with a run to the second round of the NCAA DII tournament. The team had ten players who earned GNAC All-Academic honors, and four players who were named to the Academic All-District team.
