LITCHFIELD PARK, Ari. – The Montana State University Billings women's golf team finished the SMSU Spring Classic on Tuesday, ending the tournament in seventh place as a group.
The Yellowjackets shot a combined 688 as a unit through the two rounds at Wigwam Golf Course, finishing in seventh out of eight teams.
"Wigwam was a new event on our schedule, and a good experience for our team," said head coach
Adam Buie. "It is a difficult course setup with some long par threes. We are still fighting the big numbers on holes. We have to work on limiting those going forward. This was a good test that will help us get better for the rest of the season."
Sisters Haylee and
Hannah Adams were the top finishers for the 'Jackets. Haylee finished tied for 23
rd, shooting 167 (84-83) over the 36 holes, while Hannah finished two strokes behind her with 169 (81-88), good enough to tie for 25
th. The two combined for three birdies throughout the tournament.
Meanwhile
Brennan Larson finished the two rounds in 34
th place after shooting 176 (90-86). Larson played her best golf on the back nine in round one, earning bogey or better on eight of the final nine holes that day.
Adessa Lundberg scored a 177 (90-87), finishing in a tie for 35
th. Lundberg had one birdie in round two, and the highlight of the tournament for MSUB when she shot an albatross on hole three, a 477 yard par five. in the first round, an achievement no other golfer accomplished throughout the tournament.
Meilyn Armstrong was the final MSUB golfer, ending the tournament with a score of 181 (89-92), finishing tied for 40
th.
Lehigh University took the top team score after shooting 614 as a team, with three golfers in the top five finishers of the tournament. The top individual golfer however would go to Emily Shimkus from University of Colorado Colorado Springs, who shot 147 (73-74) through the two days.
THE BUZZ: Haylee Adams was selected as the St. Vincent Healthcare Player of the Tournament.
UP NEXT: The Yellowjackets have a short break before their next tournament, where they will compete at the CSU-Pueblo Invitational at Walking Stick Golf Course in Pueblo, Colorado.
