STOCKTON, Cali. –
Brennan Larson was the top golfer for the Montana State University Billings women's golf team at the Bay Area Invitational, kicking off their 2023 spring season.
The Yellowjackets completed just one round at The Reserve at Spanos Park, with the final round of the tournament being called midway through due to high winds. Scores from the second round were scratched, leaving players with just one round of scores. The 'Jackets finished in ninth place, shooting a combined team score of 338.
"Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate today and the winds were brutal," said Yellowjackets head coach
Adam Buie. "30 mph plus winds made it unplayable. But we were able to get a round in, and were excited to get the spring season started. We've got nearly three weeks to prepare for out next tournament, and can't wait to get a full tournament in."
Larson was the top golfer for MSUB, shooting an 81 to tie for 30
th. The score was just one-off tying Larson's career low score for a round. The junior shot consistently over the 18 holes, carding just one score above a bogey.
Twin sisters Haylee and
Hannah Adams had just a one stroke difference between their scores. Haylee shot an 84 to finish tied for 40
th, while Hannah shot an 85, ending in 42
nd place. Each Adam's finished with a birdie.
Meilyn Armstrong finished tied for 48
th place, shooting a score of 88 in the opening round. Rounding out the field for the Yellowjackets was
Aubree Mitchum, who finished in 54
th with a score of 91. Seeing her first tournament action in her MSUB career, Mitchum improved as the day went on, improving by seven strokes on the back nine.
Drishti Karumbaya of Cal State East Bay and Ebba Wernered of Holy Names tied with an even score of 72 to share the top spot on the individual leaderboard. Karumbaya's Cal State East Bay squad took home the team victory, finishing with a score of 302.
THE BUZZ: Larson was selected as the St. Vincent Healthcare Golfer of the Day.
