BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings men's soccer team finished it's season at home against Western Washington with a 2-0 loss in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
Following a pregame ceremony for seniors Campagnolo,
Callum Bryan,
Valdemar Fogt, and
Ryushiro Morita, the Yellowjackets (5-8-3, 2-6-2 GNAC) concluded their 2023 campaign with a tough loss against the Vikings (6-6-5, 3-4-5 GNAC), who used a pair of second half goals to grab the win. It marked the end of a season in which the Yellowjackets matched their overall win total from the previous season in two less games played due to a pair of weather-related cancellations.
The first half saw MSUB spend a majority of the half in defense, with the Vikings outshooting the 'Jackets 9-2. But the 'Jackets wouldn't let the Vikings put any of those looks on target, while totaling the only shot on goal in the half. The Vikings would be able to deny that opportunity through, and the game would remain locked at 0-0 heading into halftime.
Following the break though, the Vikings would take a 1-0 lead in the 52
nd minute, with a through ball and chipped shot from Eric Bunnell opening the scoring. The Vikings would continue to threaten, seeing the majority of shots in the half once more. They would find an insurance goal in the 79
th minute from Edgar Serrano, seeing out the game to pick up a road victory.
Josh Nalletamby led MSUB with two shots.
Ty Vohland attempted the Yellowjackets lone shot on goal, while
George Jones attempted one shot. Senior goalkeeper
Jeremi Campagnolo made one save.
THE BUZZ: Guillermo Gonzalez was selected as the Intermountain Health Player of the Game… Vohland finished as the Yellowjacket's leading scorer with six goals, and leading point earner with 13…
Bjarne Fedkenhauer finished with a team high five assists on the season.
