BELLINGHAM, Wash.- Highlighting the Western Washington University Women's Invitational in Bellingham, Washington was freshman
Orraya Tipasathien's strong performance for the Montana State University Billings Yellowjacket women's golf team.
Orraya Tipasathien had yet another great weekend as she let the 'Jackets and the field of play with seven birdies during the two-round tournament. Tipasathien's total gross score of 149 (73-76) placed her tied for 6
th place among the field of 36 women. "I was proud of Orraya, she has continued her strong freshman season with another top-10 finish," said head coach
Adam Buie.
As a team the 'Jackets posted a two-round score of 628 (307-321) placing them in 6
th place out of the seven teams competing. "It was a good week for us, as we shot 64 strokes better than last year at this event," said Buie. "There is plenty of things to build upon as we head into the Leslie Spalding Cup, and our home tournament at Lake Hills."
Gia Vargas followed tied for 14
th place with a two-round tournament personal best of 154 (76-78). Vargas beat her original two-round score by 9 strokes. "Gia had a very solid tournament, posting two rounds in the 70's at 76 and 78," said coach Buie.
Sophomore
Hannah Adams carded a two-round score of 161 (80-81) placing her 28
th overall. Just four strokes behind Adams was
Meilyn Armstrong in 31
st place. Armstrong posted a career low 78 in the first round of the tournament and with an 87 second round, carded a 165 total for the tournament. Also competing was
Tatum York-Bement that tied for 35
th, with a two-round score of 171 (85-86).
THE BUZZ: Orraya Tipasathien was named Intermountain Health Player of the Day both days of the tournament.
COMING UP: The 'Jackets are back home for the Leslie Spalding Cup on October 12-14
th. This event will be played at Laurel Golf Club on the first day, and Lake Hills Golf Club the following two days.
