‘Jacket women take 3rd in debut tournament

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Opening up the 2022-23 season at The Golf Course at Red Rock, the Montana State University Billings women's golf team finished third at the South Dakota Mines Hardrocker Invitational on Tuesday.
 
The Yellowjackets posted a two-round team score of 698, following Monday's 348 with a 350 on Tuesday on the par-72, 5,886-yard course. "This is a tough course for our young team to start at," said MSUB head coach Adam Buie. "We are looking forward to improving at The Home Course this weekend. It was good to see (freshmen) Haylee and Hannah Adams qualify for the No. 1 and No. 2 spots in their first tournament, and Karissa (Tranas) and Adessa (Lundberg) made two awesome eagles today."
 
True freshman Hannah Adams was MSUB's top finisher in her collegiate debut, tying for 11th among the field of 40 participants. Adams shot a two-round total of 172 (85-87), and had her first collegiate birdie on the par-5, 451-yard 16th hole on Tuesday.
 
Brennan Larson started her junior season in style, making birdie on her first hole Monday on the par-4, 329-yard first. She wound up in 14th place, with a two-round score of 174 (86-88). Sophomore Meilyn Armstrong was close behind Larson, tying for 15th place with a two-round total of 175 (89-86) and improving by three strokes between rounds.
 
Haylee Adams, MSUB's other true freshman who competed at the event, tied for 17th place with a two-round total of 177 (88-89). Like her twin sister, Haylee Adams also notched her first collegiate birdie which came on the par-4, 361-yard fourth hole in Round 2.
 
Adessa Lundberg had one of the highlight moments of the tournament for the 'Jackets, making her first-career eagle on the par-5, 451-yard 16th hole in Round 2. Lundberg finished in 19th place, with a two-round score of 178 (91-87).
 
In 25th place was sophomore Sierra Brubaker, who started her season with a two-round total of 185 (92-93) and made a birdie on her first hole of the year as well. Karissa Tranas carded an eagle for the 'Jackets as well, with hers coming on the par-5, 468-yard 14th hole on Tuesday. Tranas tied for 27th place with a two-round score of 188 (94-94).
 
Also competing for the 'Jackets was Amanda King, who shot a two-round score of 214 (103-111) and took 40th place.
 
Rianna Garland of South Dakota Mines won the tournament, shooting a two-round score of 158 (76-82) to beat Chadron State's Alpine Hickstein by four strokes. Chadron State claimed the team title, with a two-round score of 675 (332-343) to edge SD Mines by a comfortable 13 strokes.
 
THE BUZZ: Hannah Adams was picked as the St. Vincent Healthcare Player of the Day.
 
AHEAD: The Yellowjackets are back on the course this weekend, at the Saint Martin's Invitational at The Home Course in DuPont, Wash. The two-round event runs Friday-Saturday, with live scoring available online here.
