5 ‘Jacket women golfers earn academic all-GNAC

PORTLAND, Ore. – Five players from the Montana State University Billings women's golf team were named academic all-Great Northwest Athletic Conference, announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
 
Seniors Kinsey Irvin, Tierney Messmer, and Jalen Wagner each earned the honor for the third time in their careers, while sophomores Brennan Larson and Amanda King were each first-time selections.
 
To be eligible for the award, players must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20, be in at least their second season with the team, and have competed during the academic year.
 
Wrapping up her four-year career with the 'Jackets on Tuesday at the GNAC Championships, Irvin finished her senior season ranking eighth in the conference with an average of 80.2 strokes per round. Irvin is completing her psychology degree and holds a 3.59 GPA.
 
Another fixture in the MSUB lineup since the fall of 2018, Messmer earned the honor for the third time and finished the year 12th in the GNAC with an average of 81.5 strokes per round. Messmer is a healthcare administration major with a perfect 4.0 GPA. She tied Kathryn Crimp of Saint Martin's University for the highest GPA in the conference.
 
Wagner also earned the award for the third time, and MSUB was the only team in the conference with three players to be honored for a third straight season. Wagner is a healthcare administration major and holds a 3.90 GPA. She competed in all 19 rounds for the Yellowjackets and averaged 88.2 strokes per round.
 
Both in their first year of eligibility for the award, Larson and King also had success in the classroom. Larson holds a 3.45 GPA while working towards her degree in human services. She played in 15 rounds this season – including the GNAC Championships – and averaged 90.1 strokes per round. King is a psychology major with a 3.56 GPA, and saw action in one event this year.
