PORTLAND, Ore. – After helping the Montana State University Billings baseball team clinch its first Great Northwest Athletic Conference series victory of the season on Sunday afternoon, senior Connor Redmond was named the GNAC Pitcher of the Week announced by the conference office on Monday.

Redmond authored 5 1/3 shutout innings in the series finale against Saint Martin's University, propelling the 'Jackets to a 5-0 shutout victory to take the series 3-1. "Redmond really had it going this week," said MSUB head coach Derek Waddoups. "He pitched ahead and had put-away stuff that was really dominant. He has been pitching great and this is one of his best performances. I am excited to see what he can do as we continue moving forward in GNAC play."

The Saints managed only four hits off the right-hander, who issued just two walks while striking out seven hitters in his start. Redmond upped his season strikeout total to 32, which ranks second on the team and fourth in the conference. He also earned his third victory of the year. "Red did a great job executing the gameplan created by Coach (Matt) Hape," Waddoups said.

Redmond holds a 4.91 ERA on the year in 29 1/3 innings pitched over his six starts. He has shown immaculate control, issuing just four walks, and over his last three starts he has surrendered just four earned runs in 17 innings pitched (2.12 ERA).

This is the first-career GNAC Pitcher of the Week award for Redmond and the fourth this season for the 'Jackets, after senior Dylan Barkley claimed the honor three times earlier this spring.

The Yellowjackets (13-13, 4-4 GNAC) host Northwest Nazarene University this weekend at Dehler Park in a four-game conference series. Live coverage for this weekend's games will be available online here.
