SEATTLE – Striking for three goals in a 10-minute span on Saturday at the Saint Martin's University soccer field, the Seattle Pacific University men's soccer team beat Montana State University Billings 3-0 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
The match, which was originally scheduled to be played at SPU's Interbay Stadium in Seattle, was relocated due to poor air quality in the Emerald City. The Falcons evened their season record at 4-4-6 with the win, and improved to 3-1-3 in conference play. The Yellowjackets meanwhile slipped to 3-7-2 overall and are now 1-4-2 in conference play.
Cameron Yriondo scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 60th minute, before Connor Tollan added a brace in the 67th and Ed Weise capped the flurry of scoring in the 69th.
The Yellowjackets managed just five shots in the match, and placed only one on frame. Lars Helleren made the only save required – on a shot by
Callum Bryan – to collect the shutout for the Falcons.
MSUB goalkeeper
Jeremi Campagnolo made one save while facing 10 shots. The back line trio of
Kolja Thomas,
Guillermo Gonzalez, and
Bryan Maxwell each played the full 90 minutes for MSUB.
The Falcons totaled five corner kicks while the Yellowjackets had one, and MSUB committed a dozen fouls in the game compared to eight by SPU.
THE BUZZ: Bryan was named the St. Vincent Healthcare Player of the Game.
NEXT WEEK: The Yellowjackets have a bye Thursday, before hosting Northwest Nazarene next Saturday with a noon kickoff to begin a three-match home stand. Live coverage will be
