BILLINGS, Mont. – For the first time since 2020, the Montana State University Billings indoor track team will have a complete, four-meet schedule in preparation for the 2022 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, held in Spokane, Wash. on Feb. 21-22.
"We are excited to compete in our first full indoor season in several years," MSUB head coach
Jonathan Woehl said. "This schedule has a good mix of local and out-of-state competitions that will help prepare us for GNACs."
Last season, the 'Jackets participated in one indoor meet, but the Great Northwest Athletic Conference did not hold an indoor championship meet in 2020-21. Both MSUB teams, however, placed eighth at the 2021 GNAC Outdoor Championships.
The road to the 2022 GNAC Indoor Championships begins next Friday, Jan. 14, as the 'Jackets drive west on I-90 for Montana State's Bobcat Challenge. One week later, MSUB will travel eastward to compete at Black Hills State's Dave Little Mile on Jan. 21-22. Start times for both meets have yet to be announced.
From there, MSUB heads south to Nebraska to compete in Chadron State's Don Holst Open on Jan. 29. After a two-week break, the Yellowjackets have one final tune-up before GNACs: the Mountain State Games, held in Pocatello, Idaho from Feb. 11-12.
The 2021 GNAC Indoor Championships will take place at The Podium, a brand-new indoor track facility located in Spokane, Wash. from Feb. 21-22. The GNAC will be the first collegiate conference to hold its championship meet at the arena, which will also host the USA Track and Field Indoor Championships later that week.
The NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held at Pittsburg State University, located in Pittsburg, Kans. from March 11-12. Division II national qualifying standards and criteria can be found
on the NCAA's website.
In MSUB's last full indoor season, both the men's and the women's teams placed 10
th in the 2020 GNAC Indoor Championships.
UP NEXT: MSUB competes at the Bobcat Challenge, held in Bozeman, Mont. on Friday, Jan. 14. A start time has not been determined.
