BILLINGS, Mont. – With the 2021 fall season less than two weeks away, the Montana State University Billings men's and women's golf teams announced their fall schedules on Wednesday.
The Yellowjacket men's team and women's team each have six events on the calendar during a busy two-month stretch spanning into mid-October. "I am very excited to announce our fall schedule for each team," said first-year MSUB head coach
Adam Buie. "The women's team will make trips to Washington, South Dakota, Arizona, and Utah. The men will be competing in South Dakota, Washington, and California."
The 'Jacket women kick things off at the Saint Martin's University Invitational, scheduled for Sept. 13-14 at The Home Course in Dupont, Wash. The team will continue at the South Dakota Mines Hardrocker Invitational – an event it won last spring – before sending half its squad to the Western New Mexico University Invitational and the other half competing locally at Laurel Golf Club at the Beartooth Invitational.
The final stroke play rounds of the fall are set for Oct. 8-9 at the Westminster Wasatch Invitational in Jordan, Utah. The women will then look to defend the Leslie Spalding Cup with a three-day match play event against Rocky Mountain College on Oct. 14-16 at three different courses in Billings.
On the men's side, play opens up on Sept. 20-21 at the SD Mines Hardrocker Invitational, as the 'Jackets will look to defend their title from last spring in Rapid City, S.D. MSUB will then return to the site of last year's NCAA West Region Championship – where it placed fifth among 16 teams – and play at the Saint Martin's University Preview at The Home Course.
Like the women, MSUB will be competing in two different events on Sept. 27-28 with half of the team headed to Bellingham, Wash., for the Western Washington Invitational and the others competing at the Beartooth Invitational. The final stroke play event of the fall is the Chico State Invitational on Oct. 11-12 in Corning, Calif. The men are also the reigning champions in match play against Rocky, as they'll look to defend the Mike Grob Cup title on Oct. 14-16 in Billings.
"We play a great schedule here at MSUB, and that was one of the main reasons I chose to take this position," said Buie. "Getting to compete within the west region and against some of the best programs in DII is an ideal situation for us. The teams are ready to get out there and see what we can accomplish this year."
