Anchorage, Alas.- The Montana State University Billings Yellowjackets lost the University of Alaska, Anchorage 87-73 in their final road game of Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. With only two games left, MSUB returns home to close out the season next week.
The Yellowjackets (10-16, 5-13 GNAC) and the Seawolves (18-11, 11-7 GNAC) went back and forth for the opening minutes until UAA went on a 13-0 run to take the lead 26-12. MSUB could not recover from that run in the first half and went into the half time break down 42-30.
MSUB was able to cut the UAA lead to 10 points twice in the second half, but ultimately could not overcome that initial run by UAA. The Seawolves put the game away pulling ahead by 18 points, 82-64 with 4:38 left and capped their senior night with an 87-73 point win.
"We ran into a very determined team on senior night," commented head coach
Mick Durham. "They are very talented offensively and were hitting threes. We battled and hung around but would implode on offense at the wrong times which put our defense in tough situations."
Three 'Jackets finished with 15 points.
Tyler Green had a double-double of 15 points and 10 assists,
Zharon Richmond did not miss a shot from the field going 6-6 in route to his 15 points and
Clarence Daniels tied his career high with 15 points.
On the flip side, UAA had two players finish with 20 points and one with 19. Tobin Kalrberg and Tyus Hosley each had 20 and Niko Bevens had 19 as the trio combined for 16 three point shots made.
MSUB had 11 turnovers and 23 assists while UAA had nine turnovers with 25 assists. The Yellowjackets shot 50.0 percent from the floor and 40.0 from three point range. UAA shot 53.3 percent from the floor and 55.9 from deep. MSUB's bench outscored UAA's 28-11 and MSUB finished with 24 points in the paint to UAAs 22.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Tyler Green is named the St. Vincent Player of the Game for his double-double of 15 points and 10 assists. His 10 assists mark the highest total number by any Yellowjacket this year.
WHAT'S AHEAD: MSUB plays their final two games of the year at home next week. Saturday's game will be senior night in which Green,
Jordan Lehrer and
Seth Christiaens will all be honored.
