BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings softball team will be playing in the Air-Supported Dome Invitational hosted by Minot State University this coming weekend. It will be the Yellowjackets first action in two weeks and final road trip before opening at home the first weekend on March.
"We are looking forward to getting back on the field this weekend," said head coach
Lisa McKinney. "The Minot tournament is going to be a fun experience for the team since we will be playing in a dome. The girls are excited to get back on to an entire field as we have been inside for the past couple of weeks. During our time at home we have refined our mechanics and fundamentals and look forward to making our adjustments in the upcoming games."
MSUB (5-6) will play Northern State University (4-0) at 3:00pm MST and Minot State (4-4) at 5:0ppm MST on Friday February 22. On the 23
rd, MSUB will take on the University of Minnesota, Crookston (4-4) at 8:30am MST and conclude with the University of Mary (2-3) at 10:30am MST.
The Yellowjackets are currently batting .286 as a team paced by a trio of hitters batting .400 or better.
Payton Reynolds and
Marin Penney are both batting .450 while
Skyler Jenkins is batting right at .400. Reynolds has a team high seven runs batted in (RBI), a .900 slugging percentage and is tied for the team lead with three homeruns. She is tied with Penney at three home runs while Penney holds a .950 slugging percentage. Penney has six RBIs and nine total hits.
Jenkins is hitting .400 with six RBIs, a .600 slugging percentage and one homerun.
Morgan Quimby has a batting average of .345 with 10 hits. Of those ten hits, half have been doubles and she has five RBIs to her name so far.
Britzy Hockett leads the 'Jackets with eight runs scored from her lead off position. Hockett is hitting .296 and leads the team with four stolen bases.
Brittanee Fisher has five RBIs on two home runs and is batting .320. Junior
Allie Hughes is batting .226 with six RBIs.
As a team, MSUB holds a 4.48 ERA. Senior
Maddy Lincoln (1-2) leads the team with 29.0 innings pitched. She carries a 5.59 earned run average (ERA) and has 11 strikeouts.
Alyssa Etheridge (2-3) leads the team with 16 strikeouts in 22.1 innings of work and has a 6.85 ERA. Freshmen
Julia Qualteri (2-1) has pitched 13.0 innings with six strikeouts and an ERA of 5.54.
