BILLINGS, MT. – The Montana State University Billings Yellowjackets used a second half comeback to defeat the Adams State University Grizzles 86-75. MSUB outscored ASU 51-25 in the second half.
In a tale of two halves, MSUB used lock down defense to fuel a comeback win after being down by 15 at halftime. MSUB could not buy a basket in the first half shooting 35.1 percent from the field and 21.4 from behind the three point arc. ASU on the other hand shot a blistering 57.1 percent from the field and from three point range into the halftime break with a commanding 50-35 point lead.
A halftime adjustment by head Coach
Mick Durham on the defensive side of the ball to change to a 2-3 zone, sparked a furious second half comeback. Locking down ASU, MSUB was able to slowly fight their way back into the game and eventually tie the game at 59 a piece after a three point shot from senior
Tyler Green with 12:11 left in the game. MSUB effectively started off the second half on a 24-9 run.
Putting the throttle down, the 'Jackets never looked back and rattled off another thrilling 27-16 run to close the game and fulfill the comeback victory 86-75.
"We just had to keep working and final had some shots go down, "said Durham. "The zone let us catch our breath and then we matched them by going small. That line up helped us spread things out and it will be an interesting matchup tomorrow night. Hopefully we can build on this comeback and play well tomorrow. "
MSUB was led by Green who finished with 28 points and finished with four three point shots.
Brendan Howard finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds for his second double-double.
Chrishon Dixon got the start at the point guard spot and repaid that with a solid 13 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and four assists. "Dixon is probably out best defensive guy, he set the tone for a lot of things in the second half and has been a leader on both sides of the ball," commented Durham.
Stevie James had a career high 11 points and added seven rebounds while freshman
Sam Elliott had a couple momentum changing blocks and finished the game with three total leading all players.
Kaelin Crane led the Grizzles with 24 points and Rylan O'Brien added 15.
