Preview: ‘Jackets face Argos in final non-conference affair

BILLINGS, Mont. – One final tune-up remains on the schedule for the Montana State University Billings women's soccer team, before Great Northwest Athletic Conference play commences this weekend.

The Yellowjackets (2-1-1) head to Great Falls, Montana, on Tuesday for a non-conference contest against the University of Providence. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. at Argo Field. "We are looking forward to our day trip to Great Falls," said MSUB head coach Stephen Cavallo. "This is an awesome opportunity for the team to prove to themselves they can go on the road and get three points on someone else's home turf. We know that is what will be required multiple times throughout the course of the GNAC season if we want to make the conference playoffs. I am looking forward to seeing the hunger and enthusiasm with which we play the game at Providence."

MSUB is coming off a 3-0 blanking of Black Hills State University on Saturday, in the final contest of the 2018 Rimrock Classic in memory of Trevor Wildberger. The bounce-back win came after a tough 2-1 loss to the University of Nebraska Kearney on Thursday, and it was MSUB's second shutout of the 2018 season.

Tuesday's match will be the first-ever regular-season contest between the Yellowjackets and Argos. Providence (2-1) started the year with a 2-0 loss to Rocky Mountain College before defeating Mid-America Christian University (Oklahoma) 4-1 on Sept. 1 and Briar Cliff University (Iowa) 2-1 on Sept. 3. The Argos went 6-10 overall last year, and finished with a record of 5-6 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.

After Tuesday's match, MSUB dives into its 12-game GNAC schedule with a home game Saturday against Central Washington University. Kickoff is set for noon at Yellowjacket Field, and the first conference affair of the season will feature live video and live statistics available online through MSUB's Stretch Internet portal here.
