‘Cats roll to 2-0 win over ‘Jackets in 2017 finale

Box Score ELLENSBURG, Wash. – KK Wallace scored both goals in a 2-0 shutout win for Central Washington University over Montana State University Billings in the 2017 Great Northwest Athletic Conference finale for both teams at the CWU Soccer Field Saturday afternoon.

Wallace had a score in each half, and the 'Jackets came up empty in their 17th and final game of the season. MSUB ended the year with a record of 3-12-2, and went 2-8-2 in conference play. Central Washington won for just the second time this season, and wrapped up the year with a mark of 2-11-3 overall and 1-9-2 in conference play.

Senior Jessica Spang completed her four-year career on Saturday, playing a full 90 minutes in her 62nd game and her 54th start since the fall of 2014. "All I can do is thank Jessica Spang for her four years of service to this program," said MSUB head coach Stephen Cavallo. "She has embodied everything that makes a Yellowjacket student-athlete: hard work, a never-quit spirit, and an infectious love for her teammates and the program."

Freshman Erinn Harder and junior Lili Delgadillo split the match in goal, each playing one half. Center backs Kalin Sandow and Amanda Hemmen each played a full 90 minutes in the final match of their sophomore season.

Harder was tested with a shot on frame in the opening five minutes, and Sandow was busy early on with a couple of key clearances from within the goal box. The Wildcats pressed forward early, keeping the majority of the possession within their attacking third of the pitch.

The opening goal came in the 27th minute, when the 'Cats pushed into the box and rolled a cross through the middle. Wallace ran onto the ball unguarded and pushed in a composed finish from 12 yards away

Wallace struck again 10 minutes into the second half, this time converting a pass from Whitney Lowe to make the score 2-0.

Delgadillo came through with a nice save in the 78th minute, denying a close range shot by CWU's Madison Bradley. It was one of three saves for Delgadillo in the final 45 minutes.

MSUB had a chance to get on the score sheet in the 83rd minute, when Alycia Wright found Jordan Devoto with a long cross from the left side of the field into the box. The junior couldn't get a shot away against her defender however, as CWU held on to the shutout.

The final shot of Spang's career was a header from the middle of the box in the 88th minute, but the clean look towards goal carried wide of the far post and out of play. Spang had 80 shots in her four seasons, and placed 36 of them on frame.

CWU out-shot MSUB 14-6 overall in the match, and placed seven shots on frame while allowing just three on target by the 'Jackets. Iacolucci had three of her team's shots, and placed two of them on target.
