LAS VEGAS - After splitting the first day of games, the MSUB softball team falls to No. 20 Augustana (S.D.) 9-0 (5 innings) and No. 25 Cal State Monterey Bay 15-2 during the middle day of the Desert Stinger tournament at Majestic Park.
The Yellowjackets collected just eight hits on the day compared to their opponent's 29. MSUB also committed seven errors on clean fielding day from both the Vikings and the Otters.
Game 1: No. 20 Augustana 9, MSUB 0 (5 innings)
The No. 20 Augustana (S.D.) Vikings put on an offensive show in the first game of the day for MSU Billings (1-3). The Yellowjackets were shut out against AU as the Vikings scored nine runs on 11 hits, defeating MSUB in five innings.
The 'Jackets had five hits in the game. Senior
Cori Gammon was 2-2 at the plate, but was unable to be hit around the bases for a run.
Bella Rovens,
Ryland Estrada, and
Myrissa Prince all had singles for the 'Jackets.
Augustana (6-5) was able to capitalize on multiple base hits, including three home runs to end the game on the 8-run mercy rule.
The Vikings' Carley Pickett (3-3) picked up the win in the circle scattering five hits and striking out five.
MSUB sophomore
Megan Dettling (1-1) was credited with the loss, giving up six runs on two hits.
Game 2: MSUB 2, Cal State Monterey Bay 15
The No,. 25 Otters produced 15 runs on 18 hits against the Yellowjackets in the second game of the day for MSUB.
Rovens, Estrada, and
Heather Tracy recorded a hit apiece, but MSUB was unable gather any momentum in the final innings as Cal State Monterey Bay scored 11 runs in the last three innings, sending the game out of reach for the Yellowjackets.
