BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings baseball team will play their home opener against Dickinson State University at Dehler Park tomorrow.
The game will be the first of eight home series that will stretch four weeks as MSUB played all of their gams so far this season on the road.
MSUB is coming off the bye week and last saw action against Northwest Nazarene University on March 29th. The Yellowjackets won game one 16-7 as the produced their highest run total of the season thus far. They were led by
Luke Reinschmidt who hit a home run, a triple, a double and a single to complete the cycle. It was only the tihrid time in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference's history that a player hit for the cycle and the first time since 2007. He was named the GNAC's player of the week for his accomplishment. Game two went to NNU 6-3 and the series was postponed in game three due to severe weather.
Dickinson is currently 5-27 and coming off of a 0-4 series loss against Dakota State University. MSU-Billings is 3-1 all-time against DSU with MSUB winning the last three games.
The Yellowjackets are led by
Brody Miller who is hitting team and GNAC best .415. He has 39 hits on the year which is tied for second in the GNAC and leads the conference in on base percentage at .512. Miller is tied for first on the team and fifth in the conference with 18 RBI's. He also has three homeruns and four doubles.
Kevin Toon is right on Miller's heals batting .413. He is second on the team with 14 RBI's and has six doubles on the year. Reinschmidt is third on the team and 12th in the conference in batting with a .302 average. He is tied for sixth in the league with 6 doubles and is tied for first with
Bret Bitow with three triples.
Bitow is fourth on the team with a .263 average. He has seven RBI's thus far and four doubles as well.
Brad Birch is fifth in batting with a .239 and is tied with Miller for first on the team and fifth in the league with 18 RBI's. He is also tied with Miller for the team lead in homeruns with three.
Conner Holbrook is batting .231,
Steven DeYoung and
Trevor Nix both have a .217 average.
Matt Eames is ninth amongst starting pitchers in the GNAC with an ERA of 5.80. He leads MSUB in innings pitched with 35.2 allowing 39 hits, 26 runs and has struck out 18 batters.
Jake Mills is sixth in the conference, and has the lowest ERA on the team, amongst non-starters with an ERA of 2.13. In 25.1 innings, he has 28 hits, a team low 6 runs in pitchers that have played 10 or more innings, and has also struck out 18 batters.
Jordan Knoll is close behind Mills with an ERA of 2.25 which is second on the team and seventh in the GNAC. In 12.0 innings he has 9 nits, seven runs and 10 strikeouts.
Jake Campeau leads MSUB with 26 strikeouts and has an ERA of 7.45.
"Our guys are excited to get going with the home portion of our schedule," head coach
Rob Bishop said. "Our travel schedule and weather have been a difficult challenge this spring so far so we are looking forward to the back half of our conference season. Having a bye week this past week should allow us to finish the season with energy and effort. I believe this team is capable of great baseball and look forward to a strong April and May."
