MSUB volleyball travels to Emerald City

BILLINGS, Mont. –The Yellowjackets are on the road this weekend as the team heads to Seattle for a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match against Seattle Pacific University.

Last week MSU Billings lost conference matches to No. 10 Western Washington and Simon Fraser in straight sets. The Yellowjackets are on a four-match slide, but look to rebound against a team they took to five sets at home earlier in the month.
 
MSU Billings is currently 10-12 overall and 5-8 in the GNAC.
 
Seattle Pacific also lost both matches last week and are now 11-10 and 5-8 in the conference.
 
Last time the two teams played, MSU Billings had 10 more total kills, 64-54, but lost the battle at the net as SPU out-blocked the 'Jackets 15.0 - 7.0. MSUB had more digs 103–84 and more assists 61–48. Four Yellowjackets finished with 10 or more kills, including Chelsey Walter and Monica Grimsrud each with 16, and Ashlynn Ward and Alaina Gentili each with 10.
 
Four Yellowjackets recorded double-digits in digs in the match against SPU. Kyndal Williams had a double-double in the five-set thriller including 53 assists and 11 digs. Haley Wells had the most digs for the team with 24, while Mataia Roderick ended the match with 21 and Kimmy Kirk added 14.
 
Last time SPU and MSUB met, Madi Cavell finished with a match-high 19 kills, while Ellie Britt produced 15. Brianna Leenders had a team-high 23 digs while Britt and Cavell completed double-doubles with 10 and 15 digs respectively.
 
In the conference, Cavell is ranked No. 2 in kills per set with 3.78, she is also No. 9 in service aces (.29 per set) and 20th in digs (2.71 per set).
 
Sarah Biondi is No. 7 in the GNAC in hitting percentage with a .268, No. 6 in assists with 8.88 and No. 4 in service aces with .333 per set.
 
Maddi Hommes is tops at the net for the Falcons averaging 0.96 blocks per set.
 
Walter continues to lead MSUB and the conference in hitting percentage. The senior middle and outside hitter has 247 kills in the season with a .337 hitting percentage. Gentili is in the top-15 in the GNAC at No. 14 with a .247 hitting percentage. The freshman continues to impress at the net and is currently leading the team in blocks at the net with a 0.75 average per set.
 
MSUB's Grimsrud is ranked No. 13 in the conference in kills with 2.97 per set. Junior setter Williams is No. 4 in the GNAC with a 10.42 assist average per set. Wells is No. 4 in the league with 4.23 digs per set.

The Series: MSU Billings is 8-26 all-time against Seattle Pacific. In away matches, the Yellowjackets are 3-13 and haven't won a match in Seattle since 2009. This season, MSUB lost in a five-set thriller at home on Oct. 4.
