Highlights

Billings, Mont. – Sophomore midfielder Katlyn Lokay had the golden boot as she recorded one goal and one assist in Thursday's (Sept. 19) victory over Simon Fraser University. Montana State Billings (2-0-1, 1-0 GNAC) persevered through a strong offensive and defensive game plan to shutout the Clan 2-0.

"It's a good first win in the GNAC; every game is important and it was a good win at home," stated head coach Wojtek Krakowiak. "Simon Fraser is a good team, and we are looking forward to playing Western Washington Saturday."

Thursday's contest was very physical, with a combined 21 fouls between both teams. The Yellowjackets slightly outshot Simon Fraser 10-9, but Simon Fraser had more quality attempts, landing six of their nine targets on goal, compared to MSU Billings' five shots on goal.

Kaylee Kimmet continues to string together great performances between the pipes, notching her third career shutout with four saves on the day. The Clan's Teagan Rae Sorokan, did her best against the Jackets' attack, tallying two saves while allowing two goals.

After a series of fouls, Jackie Hill struck a quality shot in the 18th minute that resulted in a defensive save, granting MSUB a corner kick. The Yellowjackets took full advantage of their opportunity as Lokay received the corner and dished it to Heidi Greenback who nailed the short range shot from six yards out (19:07).

Simon Fraser tried to counter with a shot on goal at 22:58, but Kimmet was stout and came up with the save. The Clan had another good look on a header attempt by Jessica Hadden at 23:35 that hit the post. Coming up unsuccessful on their tries, MSUB took their one goal advantage into halftime.

Simon Fraser tested MSUB's defense early in the second half, as they had three shots on target from 49:32 to 50:35. The Jackets protected well as the back line recorded a team save and Kimmet tallied the other two.

Play slowed midway through the half until Lokay gave MSU Billings a strong hold on the lead, scoring her first goal of the season at 77:38. Amongst a scrabble in the box, Lokay gained possession of the ball and sent a quick shot past Rae Sorokan from five yards out.

Now with the 2-0 lead the Yellowjackets sunk in on the back half and closed off the opposition's lanes. Simon Fraser could not get off a shot attempt after the 74th minute and MSUB captured the shutout victory.

Next up for the Jackets is a showdown with No. 4 Western Washington on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 4:00 p.m. The Vikings defeated MSUB three times in 2012, including the Inaugural GNAC Women's Soccer Post-Season Tournament championship.

Notes
* Greenback now has 24 career goals, ranking her sixth all-time in the Yellowjackets program in goals scored.
