BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings' Volleyball team lost a five-set match against conference opponent Seattle Pacific University Saturday 25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 21-25, and 12-15.
This is the third five-set loss for Montana State University Billings (4-17, 1-11 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) this season against a conference opponent, and their 11th loss in 13 matches as the Falcons battled back down two sets to take the match away from the Yellowjackets.
MSU Billings finished with more kills,
Stormy Siemion had her fourth double-double in a row and
Kyndal Williams set a new career-high in assists, but it wasn't enough to shut down Seattle Pacific in the final points of the fifth set.
While all the sets were close battles, the first two sets were largely controlled by MSUB, the second two sets by SPU, and the fifth set was down-to-the wire with eight tie scores and four lead changes. In the fifth it was a kill by Seattle Pacific's (12-8, 8-4 GNAC) Nikki Lowell on an assist by Kendall Langdon that put the Falcons up at 12-11 and they went on a three point run to end the match at 15-11.
Lowell led SPU's offense with 15 kills and a .406 hitting average. Madi Cavell had a double-double with 12 kills and a team-high 16 digs. Jackie Arnold put down 12 kills as well with a .417 attack average. Brianna Leenders had 15 digs while Sara Biondi and Langdon both put up 23 assists on the night.
While MSU Billings ended the match with more kills, Seattle Pacific largely controlled net play; they had 22 block assists to MSUB's eight. For SPU, Biondi and Lowell were in on six while Arnold was in on five. The Yellowjackets'
Julia Anderson had three block assists.
For the fourth game this season the Yellowjackets came out with more hits (66-57) than their opponent in a match that ended in a loss.
Stormy Siemion ended the match with her fourth double-double in a row and a .231 hitting percentage. She led the team in kills with 16 and led the team in digs with 14.
Monica Grimsrud put down 15 kills while teammates
Ashlynn Ward and
Chelsey Walter both had 13.
Julia Anderson added nine.
Sydney Oberstein had 12 digs and
Kimmy Kirk added 11 as the Yellowjackets had 63 total for the match.
Krista Norris and
Kyndal Williams both had nine.
Williams had a career-high 63 assists in the match. This is 11
th all-time in a match by an individual at MSUB; one behind Kristen Janney who had 64 assists in a game vs. Hawaii-Hilo September 17, 2002. She now has 721 assists on the season and 1,682 career, just 90 assists away from moving to fifth all-time at MSU Billings.
