Jackets End Season with a Victory

BILLINGS, Mont. - The Montana State University Billings Women's Soccer team ended their season on a high note defeating Northwest Nazarene University 1-0 Saturday afternoon.

It was the end of a hard fought season for the jackets who finished the year 6-8-2, 5-8-1 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. Before the game the two seniors on the year, Jackie Hill and Heidi Greenback, were honored. Both have been members of the Yellowjackets for four years.

This season Hill has played in all 15 games and has played 1279 minutes, which after today will move her into ninth all time in Jacket history for minutes played in a season. She has logged seven shots with three being on goal for a shot on goal percentage of .429 this year and has been named to the GNAC Academic All-Conference team for the third consecutive year.

For her Career Jackie has appeared in 53 games, logging 2550 minutes, one goal and three assists for a total of five points and was team captain this season.

This year for the Jackets Greenback she has appeared in all 16 games logging 1095 minutes, seven goals, 1 assist and 15 points and was selected to the GNAC
Academic All-Conference team for the second straight year.

For her career she has 29 goals in four seasons which is fourth all-time in Jacket History. She is fifth in assists with 14 and fifth all time for career points with 72. After today, Heidi will log 4,891 minutes played which is 11th in Jacket history and junior years 1481 minutes played is good enough for eighth all time in minutes played in a season. She will move into 10th all time for matches played in Yellowjacket history after today as well.

"Today was a great senior day. I am very happy for Jackie and Heidi, it's awesome to end the season on a win and it's a great gift for them from the team," Head Coach Wojtek Krakowiak. "It has been a pleasure to mentor and coach them for four years, I just can't believe they are seniors and will graduate in the spring. It went by too fast, we wish them all the best in the future."

The Jackets came out in the first half firing on all cylinders out shooting the Crusaders 8-3. In the 17th minute of play, Greenback would score her seventh goal of the season on an assist from Alisa Sagdahl, her fifth of the year. Sagdahl dribbled to the top of the box, passed it to a cutting Greenback who took one dribble then blasted the ball into the lower left of the goal beating NNU goalie Argia Phillips giving MSUB the 1-0 lead which would be the score heading into the half.

In the second half NNU would hold the shot advantage 5-4 and would make Jacket goalie Krystal Daniels (who ended the season with a 3-1-1 record) to make one spectacular save. Lauren Kuklenski, for NNU, floated a ball towards the upper right of the goal that had a chance to be the equalizer until Daniels leaped up and blocked it beautifully away to her left to preserve the 1-0 lead.

Greenbacks goal would prove to be the game winner as MSUB went onto win 1-0. The Jackets outshot the Crusaders 12-8 with both teams having four corner kick opportunities. Daniels had two saves on the day as did Phillips.
