OLYMPIA, Wash. - The Montana State Billings volleyball team picked up its' third conference win Saturday November 16 taking down Saint Martin's University in four sets 25-18, 27-29, 25-21, and 25-18.
Monica Grimsrud had her third game in a row with 20 plus kills and
Stormy Siemion had her sixth double-double of the season as MSUB downed Saint Martin's in a rematch from when the Saints got the sweep earlier in the season.
The first set was all MSUB (6-19, 3-13 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) as the Yellowjackets jumped out to a 3-1 lead and never looked back taking the set 25-18. The second set was a much harder fought battle with 12 ties and four lead changes, and it would be SMU who would prevail with a kill by Krystin Ross and an error by Siemion to send it to a third set tied at 1 set all. The third set would be much more even until two kills by Grimsrud and a block by Grimsrud and
Chelsey Walter would take it to a fourth set. Featuring seven ties and three lead changes the final set would be close, but the Yellowjackets would take command at 21-16 and come up with 4 points to 2, ending the game and match at 25-18.
The Saints had four players in double digits kills on the night. Brooke Good led SMU with 14. Larissa Hamilton had 12, Krystin Ross had a double-double with 11 terminations and 12 digs, and Maddie Knecht put down 10.
Cymbree Decosta had a big game for Saint Martin's (7-21, 3-13 GNAC). She finished with three kills, three block assists, 13 digs, and a team-high 43 assists. Jessica Riddle finished with a team-high 16 digs for the Saints.
For the Yellowjackets, Grimsrud had 20 kills and eight digs and finished with a .357 attack percent. Walter had her seventh game in a row finishing in double-digits in kills; she had 10 and a team-high .368 attack percent. She was also in on eight blocks in the match.
Ashlynn Ward had 13 kills and
Stormy Siemion had 10 kills and 12 digs as well as a team-high three service aces for the match.
Kyndal Williams had 46 of the 52 assists for the Yellowjackets.
MSUB's defense was spread-out as nine players recorded a dig in the match.
Sydney Oberstein had a team-high 18 digs for Montana State Billings.
MSU Billings had a .281 attack percent in the match; their best since September 13 of this year.
Next week the Yellowjackets return home for their final two games of the season. Montana State Billings will host both Alaska schools – The University of Alaska-Anchorage on Thursday November 21 and The University of Alaska-Fairbanks on Saturday November 23.
