Yellowjacket Volleyball Loses Heartbreaker in BC

Box Score BURNABY, BC – The Montana State University Billings' Volleyball team dropped a tough back-and-forth match to Simon Fraser University 20-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-21, and 14-16.

This is the second five-set loss in a row for Montana State Billings (3-15, 1-9 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) who lost a five-set battle to Western Oregon at home last Saturday.  This is also the second straight match in which the Yellowjackets outhit their opponent (62-63), but ultimately fell short. 

Simon Fraser University (9-6, 4-5 GNAC) had a team attack percentage of .160 and was led by Kelsey Robinson who set a new team season record and personal best 24 kills in a match.  Robinson had a .246 attack percentage for the match with four block assists and was second on the team in digs with 18.  Amanda Renkema also came in with double digits; she had 13 kills with a team leading .357 attack percentage.

MSU Billings had a team attack percentage of .210 and had three players with over 10 kills.  Monica Grimsrud led the team with 19 kills. Chelsey Walter had 12 kills and was in on four block assists. Stormy Siemion had a team high .389 attack percentage.  She had a double-double with 18 hits and a team best 24 digs for the Yellowjackets.  Both stats are new personal records for the freshman from Huntley, Mont.  Her previous highs were 11 hits on Sept 13 and twice had 10 digs in a match.   

Simon Fraser had two setters run their offense.  Tamara Nipp had a team best 30 assists, while Brooklyn Gould-Bradbury contributed 25.  Alanna Chan led the Clan with 25 digs while Robinson had 18 and Alison McKay had 13.

For the Yellowjackets, Kyndal Williams tied her season record of 52 assists.  This puts her at 580 on the year and 1,541 career total which moves her to 6th best all-time at MSU Billings.

On defense, Sydney Oberstein had 16 digs for MSUB behind Siemion's 24.  Kimmy Kirk had 16 and Krista Norris added 11.

There were 28 ties and 14 lead changes in the match where both teams had players in the double digits.

Next up for Montana State Billings is a match against conference opponent #8 Western Washington University.  The match is scheduled for Saturday Oct. 26 and will start at 7 p.m. Pacific Time.  Live video and live stats can be found at MSUBSports.com
