BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings volleyball team heads to Simon Fraser University and Western Washington University for a pair of Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) matches this week.
The Yellowjackets are looking to bounce back after a tough five-set loss to Western Oregon last Saturday at Alterowitz Gymnasium.
First up is a rematch with Simon Fraser University. In their last meeting Montana State Billings swept SFU at home winning the match in three sets 25-18, 25-15, and 25-22. MSU Billings had a .237 attack percentage while limiting the Clan to .071. The Yellowjackets also outhit SFU 36-28.
Monica Grimsrud had a double-double for MSUB with 10 kills and 12 digs.
Simon Fraser is coming off a conference win from last week as they defeated The University of Alaska Fairbanks in three sets at home. The Clan is being paced by Kelsey Robinson who has 169 kills on the season and a team leading average of 3.38 attacks per set. Brooklyn Gould-Bradbury has 375 assists on the year and an average of 7.50 assists per set.
On Saturday MSU Billings travels to #8 ranked Western Washington University. In another rematch from earlier in the year the Yellowjackets will lean on their team's improvements this season as they make a run at the Vikings on the road.
In their last contest Western Washington swept MSU Billings 25-14, 25-18, and 25-18. While Montana State Billings suffered the loss, they also finished with more kills (38-35) and more assists (38-36) than the Vikings. However, the Yellowjackets had 10 service errors and no service aces while WWU had four service aces and two errors.
Western Washington is currently ranked fifth nationally with a .292 hitting percentage. The Vikings offense is being led by Kayla Erickson who is ranked #1 nationally with a .428 attack percentage. WWU's Emily Boerger is ranked fifth nationally with a .398 percentage. Defensively the Vikings' Samantha Hutchinson is ranked second nationally with 6.72 digs per set. Taylor Dillard is ranked 10
th nationally with 11.40 assists per set.
Monica Grimsrud is leading the Yellowjackets with 3.40 kills per set while
Chelsey Walter has 2.82. Walter is currently ranked in the top 25 in the conference with a .210 hitting percentage.
Kyndal Williams has 528 assists on the year and is ranked fifth in the GNAC with an 8.87 average per set.
Montana State University Billings will play against Simon Fraser University Thursday Oct. 24 and Western Washington Saturday Oct. 26. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Pacific Time. Live video and live stats can be found at MSUBSports.com
