BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings volleyball team was swept at home in straight sets by Saint Martin's University Thursday 25-19, 25-18, and 29-27.
Saint Martin's (7-13, 3-5 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) used a stellar performance at the net in their first ever win over MSUB at Alterowitz Gymnasium. The Saints had a season high 28 block assists and no blocking errors in the match.
The first two sets were largely dominated by the Saints, but the third set had 13 ties and nine lead changes in a set that went back and forth until at 27-27 SMU's Kristyn Ross came up with a kill and then a team block finished the set and match in a straight set win.
Saint Martin's hit .180 as a team while limiting Montana State Billings to just .008. The Saints had 15 total blocks on the night to 4 block assists by MSUB.
Nine players for SMU registered a kill in the match. Brook Goode led the Saints offense in the win. She had 11 kills in the match. Kyra Davidson had seven, while Ross had five.
At the net for Saint Martin's, Davidson had seven block assists while Larissa Hamilton had eight. Carrie Starbuck had three kills and five block assists for SMU. Cymbree Decosta had the most assists for Saint Martin's with 26.
The Montana State Billings (3-13, 1-7 GNAC) offense was led by
Chelsey Walter. She had 10 kills in the match while seven more players also registered an attack.
Monica Grimsrud and
Ashlynn Ward both had seven, while
Stormy Siemion contributed six.
Kyndal Williams continues to produce for MSUB in the assist column; she had 28 in the match.
Defensively the Saints were led by Jessica Riddle with 14 digs. Ross had 11.
Three players for Montana State Billings had defensive digs in the double digits. Sydney Oberstien had 15,
Krista Norris had 11, Siemion had 10, while Grimsrud contributed nine.
