Box Score BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State University Billings Women's Soccer team will face two of the top three teams in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference this week. Central Washington University and Seattle Pacific University are ranked second and third respectively in the conference while the jackets are ranked fifth. SPU is also ranked eighth in the West Region and 23rd Nationally.
Central Washington (7-4, 6-2 GNAC) beat Seattle Pacific (8-4, 5-3 GNAC) and Simon Fraser last week while Seattle pacific lost to Central Washington and Western Washington.
MSUB lost to CWU (Sept. 28) 2-1 and to Seattle Pacific (Sept. 26) 2-1 in the previous match ups.
The Jackets goal tender,
Krystal Daniels, and the jacket defense will face a barrage of attacks and have to try to limit the Wildcats shot attempts. Red Hot Central Washington boasts a powerful offensive attack and are tied with Western Washington University for most shots on the season, 178, with an average of 16.18 shots per game. This is in part to having the Conferences two top shots on the year. Savanna Moorehouse has attempted a staggering 53 shots on the year averaging 4.82 a game fallowed by her teammate Danielle Brandli who has 33 attempts on the year and averages 3.30 a game. Each has six goals on the year.
Seattle Pacific is coming off a frustrating week after losses to CWU and WWU, but also has a formidable offense with 173 shot attempts on the year averaging 14.42 a game and is second in the conference with 64 points on the season. SPU is also second in the conference for goals scored with 21. SPU is led by Laura Moore who has 29 shots this season and averages 2.17 shots per game.
The Jackets (4-4-2, 3-4-1 GNAC) are coming off a week that saw them tie the University of Northwest Nazarene after
Heidi Greenback scored the equalizing goal with 17 seconds left in regulation to bring the score to 1-1 which would end up being the final. The next game MSUB defeated the University of Saint Martin's 2-1 in which Greenback scored again to move her to sixth all time in MSUB history with 23 goals. The second goal belonged to
Agen Heffernan who scored what ended up being the game winner along with her first goal of her career.
The Jackets have put themselves in place for a potential top four finish in the conference and two wins this week would propel them into the top four. They would also be the first new team in the top four since the third week of conference play.
