BILLINGS, Mont
. – The Montana State University Billings women's' volleyball team was swept in three sets by Central Washington 25-17, 25-10, and 25-23 Saturday night.
The first two sets were dominated by Central Washington (8-8, 4-4 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) as they put down 38 kills on the night for a total .248 match attack percent. MSUB (3-12, 1-6) put down 32 total kills, but was limited to a .052 overall attack percent on the night.
The Wildcats were led by Rachel Hanses as she put down 11 kills. Playing in her second collegiate career match in the GNAC, freshman Jordan Deming finished with eight kills, one service ace, three block assists, and seven digs. Kaely Kight led the team with 13 digs. Catie Fry finished with 12 digs and Zoe Iida had eight. Fry led the team in assists with 29.
Montana State Billings kept the third set competitive, leading for most of the set, but both teams battled hard as there were ties on every point from 11 to 16 and 19 and 20, but with a lead at 23-21 MSUB couldn't close out the set. Central Washington came back with the next four points to end the set at 25-23 to complete the sweep.
Monica Grimsrud led the Yellowjackets in kills with nine on the night.
Chelsey Walter had eight and
Ashlynn Ward and
Krista Norris came in with five each.
Mikara Ostermiller led the team with three block assists while
Kyndal Williams contributed a team high 28 assists for MSUB.
Sydney Oberstein has a new team season high of 18 digs for a 3-set match this year. She set the previous record of 16 against Azusa Pacific earlier in the year.
Stormy Siemion has a new individual season high as she came up with 10 digs in the match. Her previous record of nine was against Northwest Nazarene last Thursday night.
Next week the Yellowjackets return home to face conference opponents Saint Martin's University on Thursday Oct. 17, and Western Oregon on Saturday Oct. 19. Both contests begin at 7 p.m. and live video and live stats can be found at MSUBSports.com
