Billings, Mont. – The Montana State Billings women's soccer team played a tough Saint Martin's program this afternoon. MSUB controlled the time of possession but had difficulty completing their offensive attacks. With a penalty kick in the 75th minute the Yellowjackets effectively scored the lone goal of the game to improve to 7-0 on the season.

MSUB didn't waste any time implementing their offense, taking five shots with two coming on target within the first 10 minutes of the contest. Senior co-captain Jaucelyn Richter took two shots during this flurry, with one going wide right and one being saved by the Saints' Ashley Engel.

Saint Martins' first shot of the match came in the 17th minute, but the attempt was blocked by a Yellowjacket defender.

Richter wasn't the only Jacket to get into an offensive rhythm; junior forward Heidi Greenback took two shots in the first half, with one being on goal. Adrienne Biglow and Jackie Hill also took shots in the half, but both went slightly high.

While MSUB controlled the time of possession and took quality shots, they were unable to have any success, and headed into the intermission tied 0-0. The Yellowjackets out-shot the Saints in the first half 13-3.

The second half started with a more even game flow, with Saint Martins and MSUB both taking two shots a piece within the first 15 minutes of the half. Similar to the first half, the Jackets started to exert their will and began controlling the possession of the ball and surging ahead with heavy offense.

Finally in the 75th minute the offense would have success. The Jackets' senior co-captain Jennifer Larsen took a shot that the Saints' Randi Mielke intentionally blocked with her hand. Resulting in a red card for Mielke, Larsen received a penalty kick. Larsen sized up the goal keeper and effectively blasted a five yard shot to the left of the goal, giving MSUB the 1-0 lead.

After gaining the advantage on the scoreboard, the Yellowjackets didn't let up offensively. Junior Whitney Siler and freshman Katlyn Lokay took shots in the 75th and 76th minute of play. Siler's goal was saved and Lokay's shot went wide left.

Saint Martins mustered one last offensive attempt in the 81st minute with a Clarissa Strayer shot but she was off target and the shot went wide left. The Yellowjackets closed out the match 1-0 and improved their winning streak to seven games.

“Today was a tough game, that we had to fight hard to win,” stated head coach Wojtek Krakowiak. “Saint Martins has a good program and they made us work for every opportunity. We are happy to get another GNAC win, and we now must switch our focus to our next challenge which will be at Northwest Nazarene.”

Overall MSUB out-shot the Saints 24-7 and had 10 shots on goal compared to Saint Martins' zero attempts. Aiko Johnson made her seventh career start and now has five shutouts on the year.

The Yellowjackets who now stand at 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the GNAC will head to Nampa, Idaho to face Northwest Nazarene University on Saturday, Sept. 22 12:00 p.m.
