BILLINGS, Mont. – With the end of the 2012 baseball season coming into sight, Montana State Billings' head baseball coach
Rob Bishop is beginning the process of adding some more depth to an already stout returning class for the 2013 season. On Wednesday, Bishop announced the addition of Big Bend Community College transfers Matthew Benner and Danny Greenway to his 2013 roster.
Matthew Benner – 5-10 – OF/1B
Mead, WA/Mt. Spokane HS/Big Bend CC
Benner will join the Yellowjacket baseball program with two years of eligibility remaining as the he is currently a sophomore at Big Bend Community College. He is currently batting .259 and is one of four players to see action in all 28 games so far this season.
He is currently tied for third on the Vikings' squad with 16 runs scored and has connected with the ball 22 times. The right-handed outfielder has four doubles on the season, five runs batted in and has swiped four bases.
During his high school career, Benner was a three-year letterwinner in baseball and earned all-conference accolades his last three years. His team also won their conference his senior season in 2010.
Coach Bishop on Benner: “Matt has a great stick and will bring some more physicality to our program. He is an outstanding student and will be another guy that will represent our program well both on and off the field.”
Danny Greenway – 5-10 – LHP
Eagie, ID/Bishop Kelly HS/Big Bend CC
Greenway will also join MSUB's baseball program with two years of eligibility remaining. As a sophomore this season, he has seen action in seven games pitching 41 and a third innings. The leftie boasts a team-second-best 2.40 earned run average and has fanned a team-best 28 batters while only walking eight to claim his 5-1 record.
During his senior season of high school, Greenway was named an all-conference second team selection en route to helping lead his team to winning the 2010 Idaho 4A State Championship. Between his junior and senior seasons, he boasted a 15-0 record to go along with six saves.
Coach Bishop on Greenway: “Danny brings a lot to our program. He is a person of character that will work hard and be a great example of what Yellowjacket athletics is all about. He is a solid left-handed pitcher that will help us fill the hole as we are losing three solid senior pitchers.”
