Nanooks Take Out MSUB Spikers in Four Sets

FAIRBANKS, Alaska. – The Montana State University Billings' volleyball team fell in its final road match of the regular season in four sets at University of Alaska Fairbanks Saturday, 23-25, 25-23, 21-25, and 17-25.

The Nanooks (6-16, 4-12 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) finished with a .307 hitting percentage on Senior Night in the Patty Center. Sam Harthun led UAF with 20 kills and a .310 hitting percentage. Senior Reilly Stevens had a double-double with 16 kills and 15 digs. Megan Morrison added 15 kills. Katlyn Mataya dished out a match-high 59 assists and added 11 digs. Allison Oddy recorded a match-high 27 digs.

Alaska Fairbanks had a 71-56 kill advantage. It also led in assists (65-54) and digs (73-64) despite being outblocked 10-3. UAF committed 20 attack errors to MSU Billings' 12. The match had 19 ties and seven lead changes.

The Yellowjackets (10-14, 7-9) were paced by Monica Grimsrud, who had a team-high 16 kills and 12 digs. Taylor Adams chipped in 13 kills and hit .440. Julianna Evola added 11 kills. Kyndal Williams tallied 49 assists and Erin Compton had 17 digs. Jody Lutz also contributed seven kills and five block assists.

Entering the match, MSUB had won five of the last six meetings between the programs, including a sweep in Billings on Oct. 11. The Yellowjackets held UAF to a .064 hitting percentage in that win. The Nanooks have a 24-21 lead in the all-time series.

The Yellowjackets return home for the final week of the regular season with matches against Simon Fraser (4-19, 1-15) Thursday and No. 17 Western Washington (21-3, 14-2) Saturday. MSUB swept Simon Fraser earlier this season on the road, but fell in straight sets at WWU. Western Washington grabbed a three-set over Simon Fraser Saturday.

Thursday's and Saturday's matches will both feature live video and stats on MSUBSports.com. The Yellowjackets will honor Lutz and Morgan Moss in Saturday's match on Senior Night. The duo will be playing in their final matches inside Alterowitz Gymnasium.
